I created a poster for a T-shirt exhibition, which was part of a mini competition for students to advertise the event. The concept behind my design is that just like flags, T-shirts can be used to convey messages and hold significant symbols. To illustrate this, so that’s why I drew a young boy holding a flagpole with a T-shirt at the top, where a flag would typically be. This visual representation highlights the similarities between flags and T-shirts in their ability to communicate meaning. I also just think it’s an interesting visual and conveys the point of the exhibition well I think. Looking back I could have done things better for example the placement of the text is pretty unclear. But overall I like the poster.

These are some bolder color options.

Research art/design/illustration/fashion exhibition posters (min 4 examples) and include reflections. Reflect on layout, font and design.

Research into ways of marketing an art show/exhibition. What key features need to be on the marketing materials? Add this research to your blog and include reflections. Explain why you have chosen the method of marketing. Add this to your blogs.

My own creative process/ making my box art

A Task was given to us by Mark, it was to create a poster/art piece to go on the wall over Easter break. Mike said that he liked Bob Ross paintings and Soviet union posters/space posters.

At first I thought I would not do this project as I didn't have a lot of time to finish everything else, but I had the idea to combine two of my projects in order to get them both done to a higher standard and in a shorter amount of time.

I thought I could create box art for Andrews board game and create a soviet space poster at the same time. I don't know if this will be seen as a lazy or smart but either way, with how much work I had left to finish I needed to kill to birds with one stone. I will also be explained my creative process throughout making this poster/box art.

The first thing I doin my creative process is find inspiration and collecting amalgamation of images to help inspire me.

Then I devise a plan for the actual piece by collecting references.

From these references, I develop a rough sketch of the placement of the figure or whatever it is I'm drawing at the time. As I want her to have a more cartoony looking face I don't stay to phocus end on the references.

Are they trying to rationalize my choices and see if that makes sense or not,if not, I move things around and change the composition e.g.

Then I begin to compose the actual lustration, and begin to add detail.

Then I need to take a step back and Think on it, think if I'm going in the right direction and if im creating something worth while and actually applying the previous references, just staying on track basically.

Then I try and execute all the ideas i built up for example, I wanted to a design a unique looking space helmet with a retro style and looking back on my planning I try and do that.

I then deliberate with peoples opinions that I trust that I know will give me constructive criticism.

My mum said the face needed more depth at it was under a helmet so I bet back planned it where the shadow s on the face would be.

this is the final outcome I went over this creative process says a few times. I changed her expression to look more conserened an then I also added the stamps I made on procure to her helmet, and above the border. I'm really happy with the helmet I design for her obviously it's not accurate to a real space helmet and I have to give it a few bells and whistles that shouldn't be there and are supposed to be exaggerated and cartoony. Give that retro feel. I like how I have integrated the four prong star design, as that is also the design of the piece that the defenders use to move up the board.

Actually, looking at this now I can see her neck is way too long to be able to fit into this helmet but luckily the helmet kind of covers it up and isn't really noticeable I think it's OK as it's not so obvious that it stands out. Anatomy, mistakes or something I frequently do obvious, and I hope to practice anatomy and get better at so my character a weirdly long neck.

To say, this was in the bin covered in some sort of vinegar I think I did a pretty good job of covering up the damage of the box. I spruced up the box with shiny piece ofcake, sheets of card that I found in my roomto lookon theI also think the shiny holographic look up the card, adds to the retro space theme of the space invaders game. I added some small holographic numbers to indicate where the aliens would start from or they're starting placements, and I added a shit in the middle to indicate where the four prong star will start from.

This is a two player game but I think the set up makes it look like it's a warm play a game of the rules are skewing the side of the alien invadersmaking it look likeI said, I wanna play game of sorts. This game is very simple into the simplicity of the arcade game space invaders there is one objective stop the aliens from getting to the bottom and that is the objective of the defenders. Although I've added the aspects of aliens the objective is also simple to reach the bottom.

The physical box of a board game is a critical aspect of marketing the game to potential buyers. The design of the box is essential in capturing a customer's attention and conveying vital information about the game inside. I think I have managed to do this. You can clearly see that this board game is inspired by the arcade game space invaders I do think I've captured that retro space feel to it. Also I gave it a hanging aspect so it could be hung on a shelf and easily seen. The size and shape of the box can also communicate details about the game's complexity or target audience. I think this game reads as a younger target audience simply because the box is semi-cartoony even though my style is typically best in realism or semi realism, or whatever it is, I think the box wood attracts a younger audience a space invaders is a simple game relatively. It is easy for younger children to play. Additionally, the box may contain significant information such as the number of players or estimated playing time. A well-designed box is essential for attracting customers, making it a crucial part of marketing board games. I actually forgot to put the number of players in the box. I think that would be a good aspect in the future to add.

Game cover art

This is just showing how I figured out using the grid and page asist can be used to make the straight lines of the buildings look better.

Making a cover for my game.

In the past, I’ve made a few different covers for projects and even last year I made a game cover for board game so I wouldn’t say this is a new skill, but as I was unhappy with a lot of my past projects covers the amount of research and new techniques are used to create this cover in my opinion, made it much more successful than previous covers that I have made.

I made some thumbnails of what the possible design of the cover could look like and what layout best fitted into what I was trying to accomplish when designing my game cover.

Thinking back to the research I did about designing game covers I knew I wanted the main character to be center stage. I also wanted the weapon to be a main focus and of course the title. I felt like the setting should be a cityscape as that would be where the company on the escapes would be best. I also wanted to add a building that said Sumn skates on it to allude to the company that the main character works for.

The two symbols that are inside each letter O represent the two characters that started the events of the game. The four prong star on its side represents tyro and the four prong star that is facing upright represents the moon God.

I don’t know if it’s too convoluted, but if I was to develop this game further, I think it would make more sense. The idea was to have that symbol on their clothing, designs and jewelry designs, but I don’t think I made it as strong as I’d like to.

It’s also on the weapons. Tyrell‘s dagger would have the symbol that represents them and Jackie‘s dagger would have the symbol that represents the moon God, as that is where the dagger came from.

Honestly, I don’t know if that is easy to understand or not, but the idea was there and I thought I might try and explain it.

I wanted to try and emulate the soft airbrush style of games like 'life is strange' as often more mature games go with a more realistic art style.

The image above is just me trying to figure out where the moonlight would hit the character in the front I wanted to take into the consideration the shadows is the bounce light and the reflective light that would come off the sword.

Although I love 'spider verses' hard shading and comic book style so I wanted to try another type of shading style to see if it fitted my game better. Going the complete opposite route and trying soft shading and using blending to create a more realistic and soft skin texture.

The images of both I just showing how I blended out the different greys and smooth them with the smooth tool in Procreate to create the skin, hair and shirt. I feel like using the soft blend gives effect I was looking for.

I also learned how to color in a new way using the last suit tool and gradient maps. This gives them more professional finish and a valuable skill that I will use in the future. I also gave a few different options of the contrast between the title, the moon and the character in the front I tried a few different options using the gradient maps.

here are some more options that I thought looked really cool. There is a noir gradient map that I really like the effect of and also I liked the one which made the moon, super red and menacing what I decided to go with my original palette, as I think it best fits the fantasy horror vibe I want the game to have.
